CHESTERFIELD -- The University of Lynchburg's Alan Van Asch rode a strong-opening round to a commanding eight-stroke victory in the 76th VSGA Intercollegiate Championship, which concluded on Tuesday at Lake Chesdin Golf Club.

Van Asch posted rounds of 69-73 for a two-day total of 2-under 142 to finish clear of runners-up Pierce Lambert (Hampden-Sydney) and Connor Boughton (Roanoke College).

Van Asch's 3-under opening-round 69 was the only under-par round of the competition. He finished the Monday round with four birdies and a bogey to take a three-stroke lead over Hornets' teammate Sean Grzebin Jr. Though Van Asch shot 1-over in the second round, Grzebin struggled to an 81, allowing Van Asch to pull away. The 73 tied Lambert and Boughton for best score in the second round.

William & Mary's Luke Walmet shot 75-76--151 to finish alone in fourth, while Hampden-Sydney's Hudson Griffin carded a 78-74--152 to finish alone in the fifth.

For the second straight year, there was no team competition involved in this event.
