McConnell Golf to acquire, redevelop The Crossings Golf Club

April 17, 2026

McConnell Golf announced on Friday it has entered into an agreement with the Economic Development Authority and Sports & Entertainment Authority of Henrico County, marking an important step toward the acquisition and redevelopment of The Crossings Golf Club, a public daily-fee facility just outside of Richmond that has been shuttered for more than two years.

Based in North Carolina, McConnell currently manages two VSGA member clubs—Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech in Radford and The Water’s Edge Country Club in Penhook.

Henrico County bought The Crossings for $3 million several years ago with the intention of renovating and redesigning the property with an eye toward hosting professional tournaments. That plan didn’t work out, so the county instead is selling the property to McConnell for $1, Richmond Bizsense reported. In exchange, McConnell will invest nearly $6 million into renovating the course and clubhouse with the goal of reopening The Crossings as a public, daily-fee facility that would be open to local high schools and for other tournaments.

“We see this as a unique opportunity to create something special — a high-quality public golf experience that serves the local community while also attracting regional and national events,” said John McConnell, founder and CEO of McConnell Golf. “Henrico has been a strong partner throughout this process, and we believe this project will have a meaningful economic and recreational impact.”

Construction and renovation are expected to begin following final approvals, with closing on the property anticipated within the next 45 days, subject to customary due diligence and closing conditions. The new facility is targeted to reopen in fall 2027.

“This project reflects a shared vision between McConnell Golf and Henrico — one that balances long-term community benefit with private investment and operational expertise,” said Christian Anastasiadis, COO of McConnell Golf.
