Cedar Point Club and the Virginia State Golf Association have announced a five-year partnership beginning in 2026 in which Cedar Point will host several prestigious VSGA events.
The events include the 81st Captain’s Putter Matches in 2026, the 9th VSGA Parent-Child Championship in 2026, the 59th VSGA Junior Girls’ Championship in 2028, and the 83rd VSGA Senior Amateur Championship in 2030.
“Cedar Point has been an unwavering supporter and partner of the VSGA for decades,” VSGA Executive Director Matt Smiley said. “The club has hosted virtually every championship that we offer and we are excited to announce the latest package of events that will take place over the next five years. The competitors in these events will undoubtedly have a great experience at Cedar Point and will love the golf course and facilities. In addition, the hospitality shown by the club’s members and staff is second to none and always creates a welcoming atmosphere.”
The Captain’s Putter is an annual interstate competition featuring top players from the VSGA and West Virginia Golf Association battling top players from the Carolinas Golf Association over two days of competition, with four-ball and foursome matches on the first day and singles matches on the second. The 2026 competition is scheduled for October 16-17. Cedar Point will host the competition for the first time.
The Parent-Child Championship will make a return trip to Cedar Point, which hosted the competition in 2025.
Cedar Point will be hosting the Junior Girls’ Championship for the second time. The club last hosted the event in 1979. The Junior Girls’ Championship is a 54-hole competition featuring a cut after the first two rounds. It is a USGA Exemption Event, meaning the winner earns automatic entry into the U.S. Girls’ Junior.
The Senior Amateur will be making its second appearance at Cedar Point. Tim Kelley defeated Steve Williams in the final match when Cedar Point hosted in 2012.
“On behalf of all of us at Cedar Point Club, we are humbled that the VSGA continues to hold our club in such high regard” said Cedar Point President & Chairman, Cameron Robinett. “As a club, our mindset has been consistent for years. It is a privilege, an honor, and an expectation that we answer when the VSGA comes knocking on our door. This latest series of events only strengthens that resolve and I am thrilled with the latest evolution of our partnership.”
Overall, Cedar Point has hosted 14 VSGA championships, most recently the Super Senior Stroke Play and Parent-Child championships in 2025. The club has hosted a variety of VSGA championships, including four Amateurs, a Women’s Amateur, a Mid-Amateur, a Junior Stroke Play, a Women’s Stroke Play, and two Four-Ball championships.
