6th VSGA Net Amateur Championship

Dates: Tuesday, September 30 and Wednesday, October 1

Format

  • 36-hole net stroke play competition (18 holes per day).
  • The championship will be divided into the following divisions:
    • Men Ages 49 & under – approximately the Blue Tees (6,647 yards)
    • Men Ages 50-64 – approximately the White Tees (6,195 yards)
    • Men Ages 65 & Over – approximately the Silver Tees (5,459 yards)
    • Women ages 49 & Under with a HI of 9.9 or less – approximately the Silver Tees (5,459 yards)
    • Women ages 50 & Over or Players of any age with a HI of 10.0 or higher – approximately the Green Tees (5,150 yards)

Day 2: Macpherson claims overall title

PETERSBURG -- Douglas Macpherson matched his opening-round 2-under 70 on Wednesday to finish at 4-under 140 and claim the overall title at the 6th VSGA Net Amateur Championship by two strokes over Ronnie Carter. Glenn Myers finished third at 1-under 143.

Macpherson, a member of DuPont Golf Club, had a 26 Playing Handicap for the event and finished with a net eagle and four net birdies in Wednesday's second round. 

Thomas Sutterfield of Hanover Golf Club posted a 1-over net score of 145 to win the 49 & under division by one stroke over Douglas Byler and Matthew Foreman. Carter was the winner in the 50-64 division. With Macpherson winning the overall title, Mike Ancel was the winner in the 65-over division with a 6-over 150. Though he tied with Greg B Holden, Ancel won via the USGA tiebreak system. Jiji Goosby of Virginia Beach National Golf Club posted an 18-over 162 over the two days to win the ladies' division by two shots over Kim Klein.

Day 1: Myers grabs overall lead

PETERSBURG -- Glenn Myers, playing to a 14 Handicap, posted a 4-under net total of 68 to take the 18-hole overall lead at the 6th VSGA Net Amateur Championship at Country Club of Petersburg. He holds a two-stroke lead over Douglas Macpherson (26 Playing Handicap). Garry Sutterfield (zero Playing Handicap) is three shots back at 1-under 71.

Matthew Foreman (8 PH) and Douglas Byler (2 PH) are tied for the 49 and under lead at even-par 72. Myers is atop the 50-64 division. Macpherson leads the 65-over division and Jiji Goosby (16 PH) leads the ladies' division at 8-over 80.
