Day 2: Dillard/Seibert prevail, Myers/Hopkins win chaotic playoff

MATTAPONI -- The 2026 VSGA Senior/Super Senior Team Championships crowned four new VSGA champions including Kevin Dillard and Chad Seibert in the Senior Division and Keith Myers and Danny Hopkins in the Super Senior Division. Dillard and Seibert won the 8th VSGA Senior Team Championship by four shots with a score of 19-under 125, having shot 7-under during Tuesday's alternate shot portion of the event.
Myers and Hopkins eventually broke the tight race for the 4th VSGA Super Senior Team Championship on the 3rd playoff hole, which was looped on the 18th hole. Myers was the only player out of three sides to hit the green with his approach shot during the 3rd playoff, but he still needed Hopkins to make a crucial putt to put the side in position to win the event. Hopkins then put a swirling downhill putt just outside of the hole to take advantage of the other sides difficult chip shots.
8th VSGA Senior Team Championship
Dillard and Seibert didn't need the late heroics that Super Senior Division winners did, but that still didn't mean they didn't have their respective ups-and-downs on Tuesday.
The side quickly lost their lead from Monday after recording back-to-back bogeys on the 4th and 5th holes. However, the thought of playing themselves out of contention was quickly put way by a clutch eagle on the par-5 6th hole.
"We were down when we made the turn," Chad Seibert said. "We both said, 'stay committed to what we're doing'. We had a really good game plan and smart strategy. Some of those holes there like 13, 14 you feel like getting through and getting away with a par can still put some pressure on some of the guys behind us."
Dillard, who has finished second place in the VSGA's State Amateur, Mid-Amateur and Junior Stroke Play Championships, said he's "learned to not look at the live scoring until the last hole," but he still felt his first VSGA title in his grasp well before the 18th hole. He showed an enthusiastic fist pump and embrace to his partner after Seibert nailed his tee shot within eight feet of the pin on the 17th hole.
The side reclaimed their lead from the side of Dave Williams Jr and Timothy Hummel on the 15th hole, after nailing their first of four consecutive birdies in a row. Williams Jr and Hummel recorded a triple bogey on the difficult par-4 11th hole, which opened a window for the eventual Senior champions.
Just a week before the event started, Dillard paid a visit to a local golf store in the Richmond area and made the switch to a long putter, and it clearly paid dividends.
"I went in and bought a used one and it was the best I've putted in 25 years," Dillard said. "He [Hopkins] helped me stay positive when I got nervous with it and they just kept going in."
4th VSGA Super Senior Team Championship
After playing 21 holes in the 93-degree temperature on Tuesday, Hopkins credited his partner, Myers, for being in "great shape" to help the side prevail in the intense five-team playoff. Myers laughed off the compliment and credited his rigorous golf schedule of late for helping the side compete down to the wire. Sides including Allen Barber/Bob Bailey, Keith Decker/Harry Thomas, Mike Ligon/Jack Catlett and George Riefler/David Pleasants all finished 11-under 133 after Tuesday's alternate shot format.
"This was special for Keith and I," Dan said. "I've won some invitationals, but I've never won a VSGA event so this was special. Most of the guys that we were in that playoff with had one a lot of VSGA events so this was special for us."
Neither player in the pairing thought they had a good tee shot during the playoff, but they were able to hunt close enough to the pin from their approach shots to stay within range to make par, which kept them in it. Hopkins also initially felt fortunate to make the playoff at all. The side didn't make a single birdie after their 4th hole on Tuesday but only bogeyed two holes all day.
"We had the lead the whole day and we let the rest of the groups catch us," Hopkins said.
Hopkins added that him and Keith compliment each other "really well." The side had previously won two four-ball events already this season before earning their first VSGA championship on Tuesday.
"We are a good team, Keith stays level," Hopkins said. "We never get down when things aren't going well."
Day 1: Dillard/Seibert claim tight Senior lead, three-way tie for Super Senior

MATTAPONI -- Close scores defined the opening round of the 8th VSGA Senior and 4th VSGA Super Senior Team Championships at the Golf Club at Mattaponi Springs on Monday.
The side of Kevin Dillard and Chad Seibert have jumped out to a one-shot lead in the Senior Division with a score of 12-under 60. The pairing recorded eagles on the two gettable par 5's, No. 12 and No. 16. Every side in the top 5 of the Senior Division avoided recording a bogey on Monday. Dillard and Seibert will be chased by seven pairings who are within three shots of their lead, notably the two-way second place tie including the side of Dave Williams Jr./Timothy Hummel and Robert Nussey/Pete Barbera.
Defending Senior champions' Buck Brittain and Cam Young are tied for 12th place with a score of 7-under 65.
The scores are even tighter in the Super Senior Division, with the sides of Kent Erdahl/Dave Pulk, Keith Myers/Danny Hopkins and Allen Barber/Bob Bailey all tied at 11-under 61. Barber and Bailey recorded two eagles on holes six and 16 during Monday's opening two-person scramble round. There are three other pairings within two shots of the lead, including Keith Decker/Harry Thomas who finished 10-under 62. Defending Super Senior champion's Mike Ligon and Jack Catlett are also within that two-shot threshold having finished 9-under 63 on Monday.
