WALLACE, N.C. -- The Carolinas won six of the eight Sunday singles matches to rally for a 9-7 in the 40th Virginias-Carolinas Junior Boys' Matches, held at River Landing this past weekend.

The matches feature juniors from the Virginia State Golf Association and West Virginia Golf Association competing against juniors from the Carolinas Golf Association (North and South Carolina).

The Virginias team jumped to a 5-3 advantage during Saturday's play, winning three of the four foursomes matches before splitting the four four-ball matches. Grayson Wood and Xander Goboy; Jonathan McEwen and Bryson Beaver; and Garrett Kuhla and Logan Reilly won foursome matches. In the afternoon, Goboy and McEwen won their four-ball match, as did Kuhla and Reilly.

But the Virginias' momentum stalled on Sunday. Brandon Sipe led off and won his singles match for the Virginias, but Goboy was the only player to win his match. The final four matches all went the Carolinas' way, with Drew Jeffords, Gray Mitchum, Jack Wieler and Owen Kose all picking up victories to seal the Carolinas' win.

Goboy was the lone Virginias' player to go 3-0. The Carolinas lead the all-time series 22-16-2 and have won the last two matches. The matches return to Boonsboro CC in Lynchburg in 2023.
