NELLYSFORD -- Maryland dominated Sunday singles and surged to an 8-4 victory in the 23rd Virginia-Maryland Junior Girls' Team Matches, held at Stoney Creek at Wintergreen Resort. Maryland snapped a four-year losing streak in the series and won for just the second time on Virginia soil, the other coming in 2009 at Lexington G&CC.
The teams entered Sunday tied at 2 after splitting Saturday's four-ball matches. Six Maryland players won their singles matches on Sunday: Faith Choi, Sophie Simon, Anphi Le, Iren Kim, Kaylin Yeoh and Helen Yeung. Virginia earned two points in singles, with Amber Mackiewicz and Sydney Hackett providing wins.
On Saturday, Sue Lee and Isabel Bae won their four-ball match, and Faith Garcia/Victoria Matthews and Mackiewicz/Hackett tying their matches to provide half points.
