Virginia dominates, wins 12th Mid-Atlantic Junior Boys' Invitational

PIKESVILLE, Md. – Paced by outstanding showings from Bryan Lee and Chase Nevins, the Virginia team posted the most dominating win in the history of the Mid-Atlantic Junior Boys’ Invitational this weekend at The Suburban Club. Lee returned a 6-under-par total of 134 over the event’s two days, and Nevins returned a 4-under 136 as Virginia won the 12th edition of the event by a whopping 63 strokes.

The previous largest margin of victory in the event came in 2016 when Virginia posted a 20-shot win at Parkersburg Country Club. The Virginia team’s total of 850 was the second lowest in the history of the event, only behind Maryland’s 848 in 2013.

The Mid-Atlantic Junior Boys’ Invitational is a two-day stroke-play event featuring eight juniors each representing the Virginia State Golf Association, the Maryland State Golf Association and West Virginia Golf Association.

Virginia’s 850 gave the VSGA squad its seventh straight win in the event. Maryland was second at 913, followed by West Virginia at 929.

Lee shot a 4-under 66 on Saturday and followed it up with a 2-under 68 on Sunday. He made only one bogey all weekend, a five on the par-4 8th hole on Saturday. He played his last 28 holes of the weekend bogey free.

Nevins posted a bogey-free, 4-under 66 on Saturday and returned an even-par round of 70 on Sunday.

Also for Virginia, Mehrbaan Singh shot 72-71—143; Daniel Goode returned 74-73—147; Matt Moloney shot 74-74—148; Charlie Kennedy posted 76-73—149; Will Watson shot 71-78—149; and Cullen Campbell returned 72-78—150.

Lorenzo Sanz led Maryland with a 74-73—147. Noah Seivertson paced the West Virginia squad at 73-74—147.

The event will return to Virginia in 2021.
