DANVILLE — For the second year in a row, the Virginia-Maryland Junior Girls team fell short of winning the Mid-Atlantic Challenge, losing 10-2 to the Carolinas team at Danville Golf Club.

Virginia-Maryland got a slow start to the weekend, losing all the four-ball matches to go down by four points.

Coming into singles matches down by four proved to be too much for the Virginia-Maryland team, as they lost the first three matches to increase the deficit to seven points. Women’s Amateur finalist Julie Shin (VSGA Junior Golf Circuit) got Virginia and Maryland’s first win of the weekend, defeating Isabella Britt 2 and 1. Jenny Hua followed up Shin’s victory with a dominant win of her own, beating Abbey Schimpf 6 and 5.

Shin and Hua’s wins were the Virginia-Maryland’s only victories of the weekend, as the team dropped the next three singles matches to the Carolinas, for a final score of 10-2.
