ZION CROSSROADS -- The father-son combination of Ken and Trey Wren posted a 16-under-par 56 at Spring Creek Golf Club on Wednesday to win the 2nd Virginia State Golf Association Parent-Child Championship by two strokes over the father-son duo of David and Joey Jordan.
The VSGA Parent-Child Championship is a two-person, captain's choice competition with overall and age-group winners.
Age groups were divided into flights based on the age of the younger player on the side. Last year's overall champions, Chris and Ryan Slonaker, posted an 11-under 61 to win the 13 and under flight, finishing a stroke clear of Thomas and Liam Foster and Brian Harrell and Jake Albert.
The 14-18 flight winner was the side of Dave and Estaban Knorr, which finished two strokes clear of Paul and Colin Bischoff after returning an 8-under 64.
With the Wrens taking the overall title, the Jordan duo earned first place in the 19-29 flight. Diane and Johnny Garstka signed for a 10-under 62 to finish second in that group.
Two sides posted 11-under-par rounds of 61 in the 30-and-over flight: Kevin and Harold Dill, and Richard and Kyle Bailey. The Dill side earned first-place honors on a match of cards.
To win the overall title, the Wrens made birdie on every hole except for two: the par-5 5th and par-4 6th. They birdied every hole on the back nine to hold off the hard-charging Jordans, who made 12 birdies and two eagles but also marked two costly bogeys on their card.
