Fairfax’s Josh Duangmanee (International CC) and Burke’s Melanie Walker (Springfield G&CC) won titles at the 4th Virginia State Golf Association Junior Golf Circuit Championship, held this past weekend at Ford’s Colony Country Club’s Marsh Hawk Course in Williamsburg.
Duangmanee’s two-day total of 145 left him two strokes clear of Richmond’s Charlie Kennedy (Richmond CC). Kennedy was the first-round leader after returning an even-par 72 on Saturday. Duangmanee was one shot back after 18 holes, but he posted a second-round 72 to surge past Kennedy.
Duangmanee’s victory earned him an exemption in the 2019 VSGA Junior Stroke Play Championship.
Herndon’s Benjamin Choe (VSGA Junior Golf Circuit) shot 151 and finished in third. Portsmouth’s Matthew McEwen (VSGA JGC) returned 153 and finished in fourth, a Virginia Beach’s Jack Burbee (Bay Creek) posted 154 and finished in fifth.
Walker cruised to an eight-shot victory in the girls’ division. She opened with a first-round 76 to take a four-stroke lead into Sunday. She posted the best round of the tournament, a 74, in the second round to win by eight shots over Midlothian’s Ester Choi (Birkdale GC), who posted 158.
Poquoson’s Nichole Trombetta (VSGA JGC) finished in third after returning 79-82—161.
