MIDLOTHIAN – Maryland residents Aneka Seumanutafa and Jordan Cornelius each shot 1-over-par rounds of 73 Wednesday at Salisbury Country Club to earn co-medalist honors at a qualifier for the U.S. Girls’ Junior. Both will advance to the championship proper, which will be held at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif. from July 16-21.
Another Maryland resident, Faith Choi, will be the first alternate after posting a 1-over 73 and losing out on a qualifying berth in a playoff with Seumanutafa and Cornelius. Californian Carissa Wu returned a 2-over 74 and will be the second alternate.
VSGA Junior Golf Circuit member Julie Shin posted a 3-over 76 and missed out on qualifying by three strokes.
Seumanatafa, a 17 year old from Frederick, finished with three birdies against two bogeys and a double bogey to finish at 1 over.
Cornelius, who is from Bethesda, posted three birdies and four bogeys for her 1-over round. The qualifier was contested on Salisbury’s Monacan and Buckingham nines.
