Lauren Greenlief (International CC) and Jeff Long (Evergreen CC) comprised one of three sides to shoot 66 on Monday at the VSGA Mixed-Four Ball Tournament at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club’s Gold Course. After a post-round match of cards, Greenlief and Long were declared the winners in the gross division of the event.
David Partridge (Hermitage CC) and Lou Ann Carithers (CC of Culpeper) shot 66, as did Kathryn Taylor (Army Navy CC) and Mike Redwood (Providence GC). Cindy Morris and Adam Horton (Elizabeth Manor G&CC) shot 67 and finished fourth. Kim and Steve Williams (Eaglewood GC) rounded out the top five, returning 68.
Of the three sides to shoot 66, only Greenlief and Long escaped the round without a bogey. Carithers/Partridge finished with an eagle, five birdies and two bogeys. Taylor and Redwood had seven birdies, but a double bogey on No. 14 dropped them back into the tie for first.
Greenlief, the 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and 2017 VSGA Women’s Amateur champion, competed recently in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Long qualified for this year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur last week at The Foundry.
Taylor and Redwood returned 59 to finish atop the net division leaderboard. They were one shot clear of Do Kang/Yeun Sok Kang (GolfDMV) and Cecily Dorough (Golden Horseshoe GC)/Felix Dorough (The Club at Kingsmill).
