VIRGINIA BEACH – Kristine Rohrbaugh (Hidden Creek CC) and Mallory Hetzel (Sleepy Hole GC) earned spots in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship through qualifying on Thursday at Bayville Golf Club.

Rohrbaugh earned medalist honors by posting a 3-over-par 75. Hetzel, the women’s golf coach at Old Dominion University, returned a 6-over 78 to claim the second spot.

The U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, for players ages 25 and older, will be played a Quail Creek Country Club in Naples, Fla. from Oct. 7-12. Lauren Greenlief (International CC), the 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion and the winner of the 2017 VSGA Women’s Amateur, was exempt from qualifying and will be in the field as well.

Maria Kirby (Belle Haven CC), who posted an 85, and Andrea Miller (Glenmore CC), who returned 87, will be alternates.

Rohrbaugh made the turn at 4 over but got going with a birdie on No. 10. She made four birdies on the back nine, including one on No. 18, to put herself in position to earn medalist honors. Hetzel made a pair of birdies Thursday, at 7 and 15.
