The Carolinas team won their second consecutive Mid Atlantic Junior Girls' Challenge Matches

The eight-player Carolinas team easily handled the Virginia/Maryland team by winning the 16th Mid Atlantic Girls' Challenge 9-and-3 on Sunday at Scotch Hall Reserve.

For the first time in eight years, the host team won the matches.

On Saturday, every four-ball match went to 18 holes, but the Carolinas team walked away with 3 1/2 points on the first day of the Mid Atlantic Girls' Challenge. Birdies by Jodee Tindal, Emily Hawkins, and Natalie Petersen in their respective matches on the par-5 18th gave the Carolinas team the edge on the first day of competition. The pair of Alyssa Campbell and Kathleen Sumner halved their match to give the Carolinas the half point.

On the second day of competition, the Virginia/Maryland team won the first two matches of the day, as Caroline Curtis of Virginia defeated Rachel Mast 5-and-3 and Aneka Seumanutafa of Maryland knocked off Natalie Petersen 5-and-4. Sumner won the first point of the day for the Carolinas team with a 7-and-6 victory over Diana Domenech. She won four of her first five holes en route to her win. Kathryn Carson's 2-and-1 win over Victoria Tip-Aucha secured another point for the Carolinas team. The Carolinas team needed just 1/2 point to bring the cup back home to the Carolinas. Moments later, Alyssa Campbell did just that, halving her match with Faith Joy of Maryland, bringing the total to six points overall. Jodee Tindal used her back-nine to pull away from Charlotte Simpson, winning three holes in a four hole stretch to win 3-and-2, giving the Carolinas their seventh point. Rounding out the matches, Gracyn Burgess won 4-and-3 over Sophie Simon of Maryland to lock in the ninth point for the Carolinas.

The Carolinas now lead the all-time series 11-4-1. This win marks the second straight win for the Carolinas. the 2018 Mid Atlantic Girls' Challenge will be at Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club in Kilmarnock, Virginia on July 28-29th, 2018.
