RUTHER GLEN — Jeffrey Long spent part of his summer caddying for girlfriend Lauren Greenlief at VSGA and USGA championships, and Greenlief returned the favor later in the summer at the Delta Dental State Open of Virginia. Monday at Mattaponi Springs Golf Club, the two showed they can work together as four-ball teammates as well.

Greenlief (International CC) and Long (Evergreen CC) shot a 10-under 62 to win the gross division at the 2016 VSGA Mixed-Four Ball Tournament. Greenlief and Long finished three shots ahead of Tim Vigotsky (Farmington CC) and Michelle Elgin (Robert Trent Jones GC), who posted a 7-under-par 65. The side of Olivia Bowling (Dovercourt GC) and Mason Stutler (Gauntlet GC Association) shot a 6-under 66 to finish third.

Vigotsky and Elgin topped the net division, shooting an 11-under 61 to finish a stroke clear of the side of Katie Cox (Mount Vernon CC) and Cal Coolidge (The Foundry GC), and the side of Michael Ancel (Newport News GC at Deer Run) and Nancy Shiffler (Elizabeth Manor G&CC).

Greenlief and Long posted a bogey-free round that included a string of five straight birdies on the back nine. They finished with 10 birdies overall. Vigotsky and Elgin also went bogey free and made seven birdies on their way to their 65.
