15th Mid-Atlantic Girls Challenge set for this weekend

15th MID-ATLANTIC GIRLS CHALLENGE

Williamsburg Golf Club, Williamsburg, Va.

Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31

VENUE:  Williamsburg Golf Club hosted the VSGA Senior Four-Ball Championship in May. John LaFoy helped redesign the 18-hole championship layout in 2009. The course features A-1/A-4 bentgrass greens and bermudagrass fairways.

EVENT FORMAT/SCHEDULE: Eight-player junior teams from Virginia and Maryland will compete against their counterparts from North and South Carolina in four-ball and singles matches.

2015 RECAP: For the seventh straight year, the visiting squad won the Mid-Atlantic Girls Challenge, as the Virginia/Maryland team defeated the Carolinas 7½-4½ at River Landing in Wallace, N.C. The Virginia/Maryland team excelled in the team matches, as Caroline Curtis and Kristin Hearp; Sydney Mills and Josephine Jung; and Elizabeth Bose and Ashley Dingman all won their four-ball matches to help Virginia/Maryland to a 3-1 lead. Virginia/Maryland held a one-point edge in singles matches as well, with Curtis, Lena Capoccia, Bose and Dingman all winning their matches. Jung halved her match.

A LOOK AT THE VIRGINIA-MARYLAND SQUAD:

  • Kristin Hearp (Hidden Valley CC): Virginia Tech-bound golfer participated in last year’s Mid-Atlantic Girls Challenge.
  • Caroline Curtis (Hermitage CC): Rising sophomore at Collegiate School and University of Georgia commit won the RWGA Amateur and reached the semifinals of the VSGA Women’s Amateur Championship.
  • Victoria Tip-Aucha (VSGA Junior Golf Circuit): Won the VSGA Junior Girls’ Championship earlier this month and reached the semifinals at the VSGA Women’s Amateur Championship.
  • Sirena Walsh (International CC): Represented the VSGA in the recent Virginia-Maryland Junior Girls’ Matches.
  • Delaney Shah (Maryland): Earned a total of 4½ points at the recent Virginia-Maryland Junior Girls’ Matches.
  • Josephine Jung (Maryland): Earned a total of five points at the recent Virginia-Maryland Junior Girls’ Matches.
  • Sydney Mills (Maryland): Earned three points in singles at the recent Virginia-Maryland Junior Girls’ Matches.
  • Julia Calomiris (Maryland): Represented the MSGA at the recent Virginia-Maryland Junior Girls’ Matches.
