The Fleming Fund is dedicated to promoting and growing junior girls golf. Our primary goal is to make golf more accessible for young girls who have a passion for the sport but may face financial barriers. The VSGA works with First Tee chapters across Virginia to offer grants to cover the costs for junior girls ages 12-18 to attend a golf camp.
The Fleming Fund was created by the former Women's Division of the Virginia State Golf Association at the time of its integration with the VSGA in January of 2015. The Fund is named in honor of former Women's Division President Barbara Fleming of Virginia Beach, who has devoted decades of service to girls' and women's golf. During her tenure and for many years thereafter, Barbara worked tirelessly to enhance the quantity and quality of golf opportunities for women and girls under the aegis of the VSGA, and she gave generously to assist junior girls with access to golf activities they would not otherwise have been able to enjoy.
Williamsburg National Golf Club | July 28 - 31, 2024
15 junior girls selected through First Tee chapters in Virginia attended this year's camp at Williamsburg National where they received three days of concentrated golf instruction and on-course experience from Head Golf Professional Claudia Ferrini, PGA, LPGA, and Assistant Professional, Erin Harp. Fun was had by all, and we can't wait for next year!
Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to learn from the instructors at Williamsburg National Golf Club and participate in the Fleming Fund Girls' Golf Camp. I enjoyed meeting new people, particularly other girls, who share a passion for the game of golf. The instruction provided specifically helped to improve my putting and the back swing on my irons. Please extend my appreciation to the Fleming Fund for making this experience possible through a scholarship and thank you to the host club and chaperones for their hospitality.
The Williamsburg VSGA golf camp was a great experience, I’ll always remember this summer. Coach Claudia and Erin were always positive, encouraging, and extremely knowledgeable. They helped me greatly improve my golf game. I’m glad I got the chance to meet other girls from around the state and play golf together. I felt included in a judgement free environment. Our chaperone, Ms. Trichelle, was so caring and kind. We loved staying at the beautiful Powhatan Williamsburg Resort. I’m extremely grateful for having been given this opportunity by First Tee.
I would like to thank everyone involved in the making and assisting of the Fleming Fund golf camp! The people I met and the experience I gained from this camp was remarkable. I truly appreciate the wonderful accommodations and activities and hope that this camp is hosted again in the future!
Attending the Fleming Fund Golf Camp was an incredible experience that significantly improved my short game. I learned various strategies to enhance my performance, including a new technique for chipping low, which has already made a noticeable difference in my play. One of the highlights of the camp was meeting a fellow participant, a girl who shared valuable insights about how college scouts evaluate players. Her advice was eye-opening and has given me a clearer understanding of what scouts look for, helping me better prepare for future opportunities. Overall, the camp was not only educational but also inspiring, providing me with new skills and connections that will benefit my golfing journey.
