As part of the VSGA's Strategic Plan, we are committed to supporting our active duty and retired military, their dependents and military courses here in Virginia.
Similar to our One-Day Events, the VSGA hosts casual single-day events at various military courses in Virginia that are open to all golfers. Your participation in Military Appreciation events helps to support the VSGA Military Scholarship Fund, benefiting students who are dependents of military service members.

About the course: The Cardinal Golf Club is a 27-hole championship course located at Fort Gregg-Adams, south of Richmond, Virginia. The original 18 holes (Red and White) were built in 1947 are a masterpiece of traditional layout. The third nine (Blue) opened in 2002 and was designed by Ault, Clark and Associates. The three nines are intended to challenge golfers of all skill levels. The gentle rolling hills and mature, tree-lined fairways will provide a true champion’s challenge for golfers of all abilities plus, the flexibility to walk the course.

About the course: Interesting fact - the golf course had significant damage during hurricane Isabel and hundreds of trees were uprooted. When these trees were uprooted, there were thousands of UXO’s discovered in the ground, so much so that the golf course had to be closed. It was closed for a period of just over two years. Many of these UXO’s were too large to remove and had to be detonated in place causing significant damage to the golf course. After the land was cleared of all UXO’s the Air Force hired renowned architect Lester George (architect of Kinloch and many others) to renovate the golf course. Eaglewood now has a gem of a property right on a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay with views like non other for hundreds of miles. Langley AFB is also home to the F22 Raptor Fighter Jet. While playing Eaglewood, chances are you will see these jets and maybe even get a little bit of an air show demonstrating the world’s strongest Air Power!

About the course: Originally called The Officers’ Club Golf Course, the Medal of Honor Golf Course began in 1930 as a six-hole layout, most likely built by Marine Corps construction personnel. The course grew to 9-holes, with two tee boxes on each hole, around 1934. The course expanded again to 18-holes in the mid-1940s and became known as the Quantico Golf Course. This growth was led by Ernest Stanley, who was the Golf Course Superintendent from 1933 to 1976. In 1980, the Quantico Golf Course was renamed the Medal of Honor Golf Course in honor of Marines who have earned the nation’s highest medal for valor.
Access: The Golf Course is located off of the military installation, so no access is needed. Visit their website → for tee times and more information.
