MIDLOTHIAN — The Virginia State Golf Association has announced its 2026 championship schedule, which will begin in late March and continue until mid-October.

Highlights of the schedule include Virginia Beach’s Bayville Golf Club hosting the 113th VSGA Amateur Championship and originalmember club Roanoke Country Club hosting the 101st VSGA Women’s Amateur Championship.

In addition, two of the three State Open championships will be held at Midlothian’s Independence Golf Club, with the Women’s Open of Virginia being played there in June and the State Open of Virginia visiting the club in July.

Registration for all championships, qualifiers and One-Day Events opens on Wednesday, February 11 at 11 a.m.

Men’s schedule

Bayville will host the VSGA Amateur for the third time and the first time since 2012. Jake Mondy defeated Buck Brittain to win the VSGA Amateur in 2012, and Jay Woodson topped Ryan Stinnett at the club in 2002.

Bayville has previously hosted eight VSGA championships, including the Women’s Amateur, Mid-Amateur, Junior Stroke Play and Captain’s Putter Matches.

In 2025, Liam Maclauchlan defeated Justin Young 1-up in the 36-hole VSGA Amateur championship match at Birdwood Golf at Boar’s Head Resort. For the third straight year, the winner of the VSGA Amateur will receive an exemption into the U.S. Amateur Championship.

Chatmoss Country Club will host the 61st VSGA Four-Ball Championship, marking the event’s first visit to the Martinsville club since 2009. That year, Glenn Mullian and Tom Vlahakis recorded a two-stroke victory over Keith Decker and Ryan Stinnett.

Stinnett teamed with Jason Pool to win last year’s title at Williamsburg Golf Club.

The 50th VSGA Mid-Amateur Championship will take place at Bay Creek Club and Resort in Cape Charles in September. The nation’s oldest championship for players aged 25 and older will visit the Eastern Shore resort for the first time. Bay Creek hosted last year’s VSGA Senior Amateur Championship.

The State Open of Virginia will be played at Independence for the sixth straight year. In 2025, professional Larkin Gross recorded an impressive seven-stroke victory with a 16-under 194, the lowest total score since the championship was reduced to 54 holes in 2014.

River Bend Club in Great Falls will host the 79thVSGA Senior Amateur Championship, and the 44th VSGA Senior Four-Ball Championship will be held at Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club in Portsmouth. The Senior Open of Virginia makes its first visit to Keswick Club in late September.

Women’s schedule

Roanoke Country Club was one of the original four clubs to join the VSGA in 1904. It has been a proud host of VSGA championships and events, having hosting 20 times in the past. The 21st will be its fourth time hosting the Women’s Amateur and its second time hosting since 2020.

That year, teenager Tatum Walsh bested Julie Shin 5 and 3 in the final after Shin had won medalist honors. That was also the year Women’s Amateur stroke-play qualifying was reduced from 36 to 18 holes.

Other winners at Roanoke were Mrs. J. W. Reynolds of Richmond in 1948 and Mrs. Kennon W. Rodwell of Virginia Beach in 1933. There will be no repeat champion at this year’s Women’s Amateur, as 2025 winner Sky Sload has turned professional and is competing on the Epson Tour.

For the third straight year, the winner of the VSGA Women’s Amateur will receive an exemption into the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

After a one-year stint at Farmington Country Club, the Women’s Open of Virginia returns to Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, it’s third appearance at the club. The first three Women’s Opens have been won by out-of-state collegians—California’s Kaylyn Noh (2023), Penn State’s Michelle Cox (2024), and Virginia’s Kennedy Swedick, who lives in New York during the offseason (2025).

The VSGA Senior and Super Senior Women’s Amateurs return to The Omni Homestead Resort during the last week of August. One change for 2026—the Super Senior Women’s Amateur championship flight will now feature 16 players, and all consolation flights in both events will feature eight players. Both the Senior and Super Senior Women’s Amateur finals will be contested on Friday, August 28.Previously, the Super Senior event ended on Thursday.

The VSGA Women’s Four-Ball Championship celebrates its 10thanniversary in 2026 and will be held at Mount Vernon Country Club. The popular Women’s State Team Matches will be played for the 80th time and visit Spotsylvania’s Fawn Lake Country Club.

Junior championship schedule

The winners of both the VSGA Junior Stroke Play and VSGA Junior Girls’ championships will earn exemptions into their respective USGA championships, the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior.

Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech – home to both the Hokies’ and Radford Highlanders’ golf programs – will host the Junior Stroke Play for the second time. Connor Johnson Jr., a Virginia Tech commit, won therein 2018. It’s also hosted the VSGA Amateur in 2016 (won by Virginia Tech’s Joey Lane) and the VSGA Four-Ball in 2024 (won by Radford’s Patrick Gareiss and Nick Taliaferro). Might a Tech or Radford commit win there this year?

Danville Golf Club has hosted 22 VSGA championships but is hosting the Junior Girls’ for the first time. Should two-time winner Macie Rasmussen—the2025 VSGA Junior Girls’ Golfer of the Year—compete, she’ll have a chance to join Jessica Hollandsworth, Lee Shirley, and Susan Slaughter as three-time Junior Girls’ winners.
