Reilly earns spot in U.S. Open

June 9, 2026

Last week, Logan Reilly played a key role as Auburn defeated UCLA 4-1 to win the NCAA Division I Men's Championship in California.

Monday at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md., Reilly added a major individual accolade to his resume, posting a 36-hole total of 68-67--135 to earn one of four qualifying spots for the 2026 U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills.

Reilly, the 2024 VSGA Golfer of the Year, will be making his first U.S. Open appearance. It comes a year after he missed qualifying by two strokes at the same Woodmont North Course.

A member at Loudoun Golf & Country Club, Reilly burst onto the scene in a huge way in Virginia in 2024 by winning the VSGA Amateur Championship at Belle Haven Country Club and following it up with a victory in a playoff at the State Open of Virginia at Independence Golf Club. He's just the second player in the merged State Open era (1984-present) to win both titles in the same year, joining Mark Lawrence Jr.

Reilly was first off last week in California for Auburn and clinched the title for the Tigers with his putt on 18 securing a 1-up victory in his match against Alex Papayoanou. On Monday at Woodmont, he put himself in the hunt with an opening-round 68. Starting on No. 10, Reilly got to 3-under through six holes with birdies on 11, 14, and 15 before giving shots back on 17 and 2. He immediately made up for that bogey on No. 2 with back-to-back birdies before closing his round with five straight pars.

In the second round, Reilly's eagle on the par-5 15th was instrumental in helping him stay ahead of the cut line. He finished the round with four birdies, two bogeys and the eagle.

This marks the third time in four years that a VSGA member has qualified for the U.S. Open. Last year, Evan Beck earned a spot via exemption thanks to his win at the 2024 U.S. Mid-Amateur. Bryan Lee qualified at Woodmont. In 2023, Michael Brennan (then an amateur) and Isaac Simmons earned their way into the field via the Woodmont qualifier.

Lee will be the first alternate out of Woodmont after falling short on the third hole of a playoff against Jake Sollon. Jackson Suber posted a 10-under 132 to earn medalist honors at the Woodmont qualifier, with former UVA standout Ben Kohles tying Reilly for second at 7-under 135.
