POWHATAN -- For the first time in a decade, a Virginia State Golf Association member club from outside the Richmond metro has won the VSGA Club Championship.
Keswick Club, located just east of Charlottesville, posted a team total of 13-under-par 131 to win the 82nd playing of the event on Monday at The Foundry Golf Club. Keswick finished three shots clear of the host club's A team, which posted a 10-under total of 134. The last non-Richmond area clubs to win the championship were Army Navy CC and Cavalier G&YC, which shared the spoils in 2015.
Keswick members Kyle Bailey and Will Collins teamed earlier this month to win the VSGA Multi-Format Team Championship at The Dominion Club. They split up for this championship, with Bailey pairing with Craig Fenton to shoot a 7-under 65, and Collins teaming with Boston Craddock to post a 6-under 66. No one in the afternoon wave seriously threatened to overtake Keswick's morning showing. Hermitage CC and Willow Oaks CC, both of which went out in the morning, tied for third at 9-under 135, as did International Country Club and Country Club of Fairfax, which went out in the afternoon.
Belle Haven CC, Chatmoss CC, and Lakeside Park Club tied for seventh at 8-under 136.
