NEW KENT -- Ben Choi (Jefferson District Golf Course) posted a net total of 8-under par 136 over two days at The Club at Viniterra to claim the overall title in the 4th Virginia State Golf Association Net Amateur Championship.
After an opening-round net 9-under 63 on Monday, Choi returned a net 1-over 73 on Tuesday to hold off Dupont-New Bridge Golf Club's Douglas Macpherson by one stroke. Choi played to a 27 course handicap on Monday and a 20 course handicap on Tuesday.
David Dooley (Nottoway River CC) finished in third at 2-under 142. Curtis Henley (Williamsburg GC) was the fourth player to finish under par with a 1-under 143. His net 4-under 68 was the second best score of the day on Tuesday, just behind VSGA eClub member Robert Dreelin, who shot a net 5-under 67 on Tuesday to move 35 spots up the leaderboard to 16th.
Choi was the winner in the 49-and-under division. Dooley won the 50-64 age division, and Macpherson son the 65-and-over division. Patricia Stadaker (Greendale GC) shot net 75-74--149 (+5) to win the ladies' division.
