WILLIAMSBURG — The Chesapeake tandem of Xander Goboy and Trey Marrion posted a two-day aggregate 14-under-par 130 to win the 8th MAPGA/VSGA Junior Four-Ball Championship this past weekend at Kingsmill Resort’s Plantation Course.
Both players made birdie on the par-4 18th on Sunday, providing the winning margin. Marrion and Goboy finished one stroke clear of two runner-up sides: Vienna’s Matt Moloney and David Stanford, and Fairfax’s Josh Duangmanee and Leesburg’s Matthew Monastero.
The victory earns Goboy and Marrion a spot in the 56th VSGA Four-Ball Championship, which will be held May 14-15 at Hermitage Country Club in Manakin Sabot.
Goboy/Marrion opened with a sizzling 9-under 63 on Saturday, a round that included an eagle from Goboy on the par-5 15th hole. They opened Sunday’s second round with a two-stroke edge over Lynchburg’s Penn Willman and Luke Libbey and a three-stroke lead over four sides, including the two runners-up.
Goboy/Marrion posted a 5-under 67 on Sunday to secure the win. The birdies on 18 were crucial, as the winning side had to hold off a furious charge from the runners-up. Duangmanee and Monastero, birdied their final three holes, and Stanford/Moloney made birdie on 18 on Sunday as well. Both runners-up shot 65 on Sunday.
Brambleton’s Aryan Vuradi and Ashburn’s Mehrbaan Singh finished alone in fourth at 132. Roanoke’s Ashton Harper and Hardy’s Slade Aliff rounded out the top five with a two-day 133.
