WILLIAMSBURG—Virginia Beach’s Jack Burbee and Amber Mackiewicz shot a 9-under-par 63 on Sunday for a two-day aggregate total of 14-under 130 to win the 7th MAPGA/VSGA Junior Four-Ball Championship, held at Kingsmill Resort’s Plantation Course.
The victory earns Burbee and Mackiewicz an exemption into the 55th VSGA Four-Ball Championship, which will be held Oct. 15-16 at Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst.
Burbee and Mackiewicz entered Sunday’s second round two shots behind 18-hole leaders Mehrbaan Singh and Bryan Lee. They quickly erased that deficit thanks to Mackiewicz’s eagle on the par-5 2nd hole. Burbee made birdies on Nos. 4 and 5, and the side made the turn at 6 under after birdies on Nos. 7 and 9.
Meanwhile, Singh and Lee struggled to get going, posting a 2-under 34 on the front. Slade Aliff and Samir Davidov, who entered the round one shot back of the lead, were one back of Burbee and Mackiewicz at the turn after posting a 4-under 32 on the front. But a bogey on the 10th dropped them two shots back, and though they got within one shot after a Davidov birdie on 11, they never fully closed the gap.
Burbee and Mackiewicz closed with birdies on two of their final three holes, including Burbee’s birdie on the par-14 18th.
The winners finished two shots clear of three sides. Aliff and Davidov posted two rounds of 66 to finish at 12-under 132. Singh and Lee followed Saturday’s 65 with a 67 on Sunday. And Charlie Kennedy and Cullen Campbell shot 64 on Sunday after a first-round 68. They were tied with Burbee and Mackiewicz after 15 holes but finished with three straight pars while Burbee and Mackiewicz went 2 under on their last three holes.
