NEWPORT NEWS — Christopher
Newport University posted a team total of 316 on Saturday to win the
rain-shortened 1st Virginia State Golf Association Women’s
Intercollegiate Championship at James River Country Club.
The second round of the championship, scheduled for Sunday,
was canceled due to heavy rain.
CNU’s win gave the Captains a sweep of the VSGA’s
Intercollegiate Championships. The CNU men won earlier last week at Blacksburg
Country Club.
CNU finished 26 strokes clear of runner-up University of
Lynchburg, which posted a score of 342. Marymount University finished third at
344.
CNU’s Erica Whitehouse earned individual medalist honors
with a 1-over-par 72. Marymount’s Hunter Gillis was second at 73. Lynchburg’s
Lily Self and CNU’s Katie Thome tied for fourth at 75.
