The eight-member Virginia team will look for its fifth straight victory in the Mid-Atlantic Junior Invitational when the 10th edition of the annual event featuring juniors from Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia tees off Saturday at River Bend Club in Great Falls.
The event is returning to Virginia for the first time since 2015, when the VSGA squad squeaked out a one-stroke victory over the squad from the Maryland State Golf Association at King Carter Golf Club.
Either Maryland or Virginia has won every edition of the event. Virginia posted a two-day total of 870 last year at The Suburban Club in Baltimore, finishing 17 strokes clear of West Virginia, which finished in second for the first time in event history.
The event is a two-day, 36-hole stroke-play event. Virginia and Maryland have each won five times, with Maryland’s last win coming in 2013.
