20th Virginia-Maryland Junior Girls' Matches begin Saturday

The 20th Virginia-Maryland Junior Girls’ Matches are set for this weekend (June 23-24) at Ocean City Golf Club in Berlin, Md. Eight top juniors from the VSGA will face off against eight top juniors from the Maryland State Golf Association for the right to hold the Poindexter Cup.

Virginia won last year’s matches 7½-4½ at Winchester Country Club and hold a 15-3-1 lead in the overall series, which began in 1999 with a Virginia win at Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria.

The teams have split the last four meetings, with each team winning twice on home soil. Virginia’s last win in Maryland came in 2012 at Turf Valley Golf Club in Ellicott City.

Saturday will feature four four-ball matches and Sunday will feature eight singles matches. One point is available in each match.
