Victoria Tip-Aucha's victory in the 2016 VSGA Junior Girls' Championship was remarkable because of the way she stormed back with a second-round 67 to force a playoff, which she won with a birdie on the first hole. Her victory in the 2017 version of the event was remarkable for a different reason: She plowed through the field at Salisbury Country Club in near-record fashion.
Tip-Aucha's two-round 136 was 10 shots better than her closest competitors. It marked the first time since 2007 that a player had posted two rounds in the 60s to win the championship, and she was two strokes shy of tying the all-time tournament record of 134. Should she win a third straight title in July at Boonsboro Country Club in Lynchburg, she would join Lee Shirley and Susan Slaughter as the only junior girls to accomplish that feat.
Tip-Aucha's game has translated against older players as well. She reached the semifinals of the 2016 VSGA Women's Amateur and advanced to match player in the event in 2017. She's had a chance to play against men in a professional event in Thailand. Tip-Aucha's game continues to grow, and she's poised to take another step in 2018.
