Golfweek has released its 2017 rankings for best resort courses and best residential courses, and VSGA member clubs are well represented on both lists.
Of the top 100 resort courses in the United States, four are VSGA member clubs and three more earned recognition in the “next 100” best resort courses.
The Omni Homestead Resort’s Cascades Course again tops the list of VSGA member club resort courses, checking in at No. 21, same as it did last year. The Highland Course at Primland Resort in Meadows of Dan moved up three spots from last year’s rankings to No. 31.
The Golden Horseshoe Resort’s Gold Course got a boost from anticipated improvements from an ongoing renovation project. The Gold Course jumped 15 spots in Golfweek’s rankings, moving from No. 52 to No. 37 nationally. Rounding out the VSGA contingent in the Top 50 was Keswick Golf Club’s Full Cry layout, which moved up two spots to No. 45.
Kingsmill’s River Course and Bay Creek’s Nicklaus and Palmer courses all were in the “next 100” listings.
Two VSGA member clubs cracked the top 100 in Golfweek’s 2017 Top Residential Courses rankings. Ballyhack Golf Club in Roanoke checked in at No. 82, and The Virginian Golf Club in Bristol was ranked No. 89.
The Club at Creighton Farms in Aldie and Spring Creek Golf Club in Zion Crossroads both received recognition as one of the “next 100” residential courses.
