WILLIAMSBURG - James Gallagher (Tidewater Amateur Golf Tour) finished yet another tournament at the top of the leaderboard alongside Gary Cicatiello (Providence Forge) in the U.S. Senior Amateur Qualifier at Two Rivers Country Club on August 18, 2016.
There were two spots up for grabs at Thursday’s qualifier. Gallagher had a slow start with two bogies on the front, but finished with a birdie on No. 9 before making three more birdies on the back-nine. His strong finish led him to a 1-under 71. Cicatiello had a steady round with a total of four birdies to shoot a matching 1-under 71, pushing him into a playoff with both Gallagher and Keith Decker (Chatmoss Country Club).
Gallagher and Cicatiello ended the playoff quickly with a birdie and a par, respectively, to advance to the U.S. Senior Amateur. This is Gallagher’s second time this year qualifying for a national event. He qualified for the U.S. Mid-Am earlier this month. Cicatiello was not hiding his excitement after the playoff due to the fact that this was his first time qualifying to compete at the national level.
The U.S. Senior Amateur will be held Sept. 17-22 at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.
