Rules of Golf

VSGA and MAPGA Rules of Golf Workshops

Some of the VSGA’s and MAPGA’s top rules’ officials were among the instructors at a combined seven full-day and half-day VSGA-MAPGA Rules of Golf workshops offered throughout 2013.

The workshops are designed for both novices and individuals interested in learning more about the intricacies of the Rules of Golf. The sessions included fun and engaging discussion as instructors illustrate actual Rules’ situations using video clips and other interactive technologies.

HALF-DAY WORKSHOP SCHEDULE / OPTIONAL GOLF FEATURES
- Review of Definitions
- Discussion on the Rules of Golf
- PowerPoint presentation showing actual Rules situations
- PGA member service requirement credit
- Optional golf following the session for a cart fee only
(weather permitting – paid on site and participants had to attend the workshop in order to play)

HALF-DAY WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
Monday, March 11 – 1757 Golf Club, Dulles –COMPLETE–
Monday, March 18 – Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club, Virginia Beach –COMPLETE–
Wednesday, March 20 – Ballyhack Golf Club, Roanoke –COMPLETE–
Saturday, March 23 – Jefferson Lakeside Country Club, Richmond –COMPLETE–

Half-day programs will be conducted from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. (registration began at 7:30 a.m.)

- Use of the Decisions on the Rules of Golf book
- PowerPoint presentation showing actual Rules’ situations
- PGA member service requirement credit

Monday, Feb. 11 – Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club, Portsmouth –COMPLETE–
Saturday, Feb. 16 – Army Navy Country Club (Arlington Course), Arlington –COMPLETE–
Tuesday, Feb. 26 – Farmington Country Club, Charlottesville –COMPLETE–

Full-day programs were conducted from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (registration began at 7:30 a.m.)

Registration fees were as follows: VSGA members ($30–half/$50–full); MAPGA professionals ($30–half/$50–full); students ($20–half/$35–full); non-VSGA members ($40–half/$60–full); non-MAPGA professionals ($40–half/$60–full).

The half-day workshop fee included a continental breakfast, refreshments during breaks and a Rules of Golf book.

These informative and interactive sessions are approximately 90 minutes in length. The USGA, in conjunction with The R&A in St. Andrews, Scotland, writes, interprets and maintains the Rules of Golf to guard the tradition and integrity of the game. The two organizations are joint authors and owners of the Rules of Golf and Decisions on the Rules of Golf. Through an agreement with The R&A, the rules jurisdiction of the USGA includes only the United States, its possessions and Mexico. The latest version went into effect Jan. 1, 2008. The next revision took effect Jan. 1, 2012.
